Despite the rain and the wind from Hurricane Matthew this weekend, we expect the sun to come out, the fields to dry up, and the skies to be blue. We are planning a full day of polo as scheduled, on Sunday, October 9.
We begin the day with the USPA Middle School League Tournament starting at 9 AM at the Tod’s Hill arena at 127 Zane Trace, Aiken. Please come out and see our up-and-coming superstars display their skills. We will see players not only from Aiken but also Alabama, North Carolina and Georgia. Thanks to Re/Max Tattersall Group’s Karl McMillan for saving the day and offering us their covered arena.
The finals of the 2016 USPA Copper Cup 12 goal at Aiken Polo Club’s historic Whitney Field will be at 3 PM. Sunday’s game features Crestview, the defending champion, versus Bendabout, the winner of the tournament in 2010. It should be a great match. Crestview has to be considered the favorite, having won all of its games in the tournament so far, including its first match-up against Bendabout last Sunday morning. (12-11). But Bendabout is coming off a dominating 14-6 win in the semifinals and can never be discounted, especially considering the masterful play of its headline player, the 8-goal Julio Arellano.
Don’t miss the match! While you are there, please come on over to the Alan Lyle Corey III pavilion and relax with RE/Max Tattersall group, our generous bar sponsor. The Mellow Mushroom is providing the food. In addition to enjoying the Copper Cup finals, we will also be celebrating Columbus Day with a tailgating competition, so bring your best!
